A Journey of Generosity…
“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed
me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’
Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give
you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we
see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of
the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ “– Matthew 25:35-40
Trash to Treasure Ministry, TTT is a non-profit 501(c)(3) Christian organization that raises funds through the reselling
of new or gently used items to benefit mission projects locally, nationally and internationally. It is a journey of generosity
and a passion to serve God’s kingdom by helping those in need.
The vision to turn “one man’s trash into another man’s treasure” was birthed when founders, Gary and Valerie Richter of Wisconsin, USA, served as leaders in the Financial Peace University ministry beginning in 2015. The Richters have a powerful testimony about how God brought them out of $385,000 of debt and impressed upon their hearts to give generously to God’s kingdom work.
As efforts developed in 2017 to expand the teaching of Financial Peace University worldwide, reselling items became a way of funding the mission expenses and the projects associated with the missions. The first mission was to adapt the Financial Peace University curriculum and teach it in Uganda for six weeks to over 2000 pastors, community leaders and citizens. After returning from the Uganda Mission, the Richters downsized from a 4-bedroom family home to a 2-bedroom apartment to be able to sow into the vision of generosity God had given them. In the downsizing, Trash to Treasure truly accelerated as a ministry and many household items were sold for ongoing missions.
Under the umbrella of TTT, funds are raised to benefit local, national and international ministries and ministry projects that offer physical, educational and spiritual help to those in need. TTT sources of funding are obtained through monetary donations and the sale of in-kind donations. In-kind donations are sold online through Facebook Marketplace and eBay and through local community rummage sales. TTT also offers budget coaching as needed. Valerie is a Dave Ramsey certified budget coach and Gary is a qualified budget coach through his experience in Financial Peace University. We currently serve several ministries in Uganda, Kenya, India and the United States.
TTT is unique in that it helps tri-fold. First, it rescues useful items in good condition that would normally end up in a landfill and takes them off the hands of those looking to discard or donate those items. Second, the items being resold are priced affordably so that even those with the most frugal budgets are able to purchase nice, quality items at a fraction of the full retail cost. Third, 100% of the net profits from the sales are donated to beneficiaries locally, nationally and internationally, meeting the physical, educational and spiritual needs of people and furthering the work of the Kingdom of God.
